Fabricated Rooms and Theatre Works present

June

by Patrick McCarthy

July 26th - Aug 5th, 2023 at Theatre Works

After spending a year in silence, June invites an audience into her world. At times charming, at others shimmering with rage, she arrives fully formed but alters at will. A gentle and challenging play about moving through the world and finding a voice that fits who you have become.

Following their critically acclaimed productions Grief and the Lullaby (2015 – 4 x Green Room Award Nominee) and The Sky Is Well Designed (2017 – Highly Commended, Best Performance at Melbourne Fringe), Fabricated Rooms return with their long-awaited third project. Written by Patrick McCarthy, directed by Emily Tomlins, and with an incredible design team including Zoe Rouse, Lisa Mibus and Jess Keffe, June will be performed by the brilliant and captivating Caroline Lee.

Read curated critical responses to June here

"a joy to hear, and amounts to a deeply moving meditation...Caroline Lee is masterful as June...4 stars" - Arts Hub

"A delicate sense of comedy is key to what becomes an intimate and lightly meta-theatrical reflection on voice and voicelessness, and Lee’s buoyant presence builds a sparkling eccentricity while guiding the character’s reflections on unspoken depths...a textured performance from Lee – by turns wry, pensive, steely, and still – that has the auditorium rippling with laughter...an intricate solo performance, tackling a complex internal landscape, and some desolating themes, with humour and poignancy" - The Age

Duration: 70min

June has been developed with the support of the the City of Melbourne and 45 Downstairs, and is presented with the generous funding support of the Besen Foundation.
